The JCB Pothole Pro is a unique machine designed to support the roadworks industry for councils and contractors. With its innovative features, this machine is set to transform the way pothole repairs and road maintenance are carried out.
Powered by a high-performance JCB Ecomax engine, the JCB Pothole Pro features heavy horsepower and speeds of up to 24.8 mph when moving between sites, providing the necessary strength and pace to tackle challenging road surfaces.
The cab of the JCB Pothole Pro includes a high seating position that offers unobstructed 360º views within the cab. Open views enable operators to see in congested urban areas, safeguarding pedestrians and vehicles.
This machine is capable of executing the “Cut, Crop and Clean” process developed by JCB. With the side shifting planer, the machine cuts against the roadside curb, while the self-levelling mechanism delivers consistent results. To further enhance the longevity of repairs, the dedicated cropping tool creates a uniform hole profile.
The JCB Pothole Pro also has cleaning capabilities. Equipped with a 47.2-in. wide sweeper collector featuring dust suppression, it swiftly prepares potholes. The machine’s versatility allows operators to collect and dump chippings using either bucket mode or by engaging the brush, reducing the time required for road surface preparation before re-laying.
From the operator’s seat, adjustments to the 23.6-in. planer can be made, thanks to hydraulic depth and tilt control.

IRONPROS Perspective
While we probably won't see the JCB Pothole Pro in the U.S. market any time soon, the machine provides a glimpse of what the future of asphalt construction and roadway maintenance might look like. So far, several towns in the U.K. have adopted the asphalt machine. The Pothole Pro is also being demonstrated in Australia.
According to JCB, all-in-one solutions could be the answer to handling these projects as cities get more congested. Deploying large asphalt pavers, motorized sweepers and other heavy machines in cities is very challenging, with the presence of pedestrians, cars, small structures and stop signs.
The Pothole Pro addresses this issue effectively, without compromising productivity. In fact, this machine "completes tasks that would typically require 20 to 30 minutes of manual labor with a jackhammer, achieving the same results in just four minutes."
Impressive.
