The PC220LC-12 and PC220LCi-12 are Komatsu’s next generation of 24-ton class hydraulic excavators, engineered with operator experience, jobsite efficiency and total cost of ownership in mind. The redesigned PC220 was developed through extensive customer and operator feedback to address persistent industry challenges, including labor shortages, operator fatigue, rising operating costs and increasing jobsite complexity.
The PC220LC‑12 and PC220LCi‑12 feature a newly developed cab that is 20% larger, with 30% more legroom for operators. This updated cab includes a highly customizable, touch panel interface that allows up to 50 operator ID profiles to be added to the machine, enabling individual operators to set and save their preferred machine settings. Operators also benefit from 50% improved visibility through the right-side window.
In addition to the updated cab, the PC220LC-12 delivers multiple improvements in performance, efficiency and total cost of ownership compared to the PC210LC-11. Key features and benefits include:
- Up to 20% reduction in fuel costs
- Up to 18% increase in workload productivity in the new P plus mode
- Up to 8% increase in digging force
- Up to 7% increase in overall lifting capacity
- Up to 20% reduction in maintenance costs
- A 5% increase in horsepower and 20% more hydraulic flow
Komatsu’s -12 series excavators bring the latest technology to the forefront by empowering operators during a hard day's work. The PC220LC-12 and PC220LCi-12 both come standard with 2D machine guidance and 2D boundary control, giving a base level of technology commonly adopted within the market. The PC220 also features KomVision 360-degree camera system, incorporating a new human and object detection system to help promote operator awareness. The system also utilizes an auto-stop function that disables machine travel and work equipment in the case where those systems are active, and an obstruction is identified too close to the machine working range.
The PC220LC-12 features advanced operator, hydraulic, safety and connectivity technologies, while the PC220LCi-12 adds factory integrated Intelligent Machine Control (IMC 3.0) automation. IMC 3.0 capabilities include 3D boundary control (an industry first in this size class) which allows operators to set virtual depth, height and side limits, along with auto swing stop, travel stop, swing to line and travel along line functions. Together, these features are designed to reduce rework, improve jobsite safety and help operators achieve consistent, high-quality results.
