Whether it’s long hours on my feet or trudging through wet, muddy conditions, I need work boots that hold up.
I was in the market for a new pair so I decided to try a few brands that I always see on the jobsite, BRUNT and Timberland Pro. I’m a round-toe, defined heel guy so the two that stood out were the BRUNT Sullivan and the Timberland Pit Boss.
Both have their fans, but how do they really compare when it comes to comfort, durability and value? Let’s take a closer look.
Comfort
Let’s start with comfort because, honestly, if your boots aren’t comfortable, nothing else matters. The BRUNT Sullivan has really impressed me here. The composite toe is lighter than a steel toe, which makes a noticeable difference after a long day. Plus, most boots have a longer break in time, but I found the Sullivan basically comfortable out of the box.
On the other hand, the Timberland Pit Boss has a padded collar and a solid build, but the steel toe makes it heavier. While it does a decent job, I found the Pit Boss a bit more tiring to wear over extended periods. It also had a longer break in period, which I just don’t have time for when I need to wear these boots right away.
In my experience, if you’re on your feet all day, the lighter BRUNT Sullivan takes the edge in comfort.
Durability
Now, let’s talk about durability because you need boots that can take a beating and keep going. The BRUNT Sullivan really shines here, especially with its waterproofing. I deal with a lot of unexpected weather and these boots kept my feet completely dry. They’ve also held up well over time, showing little wear after months of use.
The Timberland Pit Boss, on the other hand, is definitely built tough, but it lacks waterproofing. For me, that’s a pretty big drawback. Sure, the Pit Boss is durable, but without waterproofing, it’s not as versatile as the Sullivan.
Both have a defined heel, which is huge for security when climbing ladders, but I felt like the deeper lugs of the Sullivan gave me a bit more traction and grip.
For me, durability isn’t just about how long a boot lasts; it’s about how well it handles different conditions. And here, the BRUNT Sullivan takes the lead with its waterproof design that doesn’t sacrifice toughness.
Trying Them On
One thing to note is that I was able to try the Timberland Pit Boss in-store, which gave me a good feel for the fit and comfort right away. There’s something reassuring about being able to walk around in a pair before committing to them. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do the same with the BRUNT Sullivan since they weren’t available in any stores near me. However, BRUNT does offer a solid return policy, so even though I had to order them online, I felt confident giving them a shot.
Value for Money
At the end of the day, you want the best bang for your buck. If you’re just looking to save money, then the Pit Boss might be worth it for you. The BRUNT Sullivan is about $10 more than the Timberland Pit Boss, but I’ve found that it’s worth every penny. With the added benefits of waterproofing, a lighter composite toe and out of the box comfort, the Sullivan gives you more versatility and durability for the long haul.
While the Pit Boss is a solid boot, its lack of waterproofing and heavier build make it less adaptable to different work conditions. So, when you consider what you’re getting for the price, the BRUNT Sullivan offers better overall value for those who need a boot that can handle it all.
Final Verdict
After putting both the BRUNT Sullivan and the Timberland Pit Boss to the test, it’s clear that both boots have their strengths, but the BRUNT Sullivan comes out on top for me. With its superior comfort, along with the added durability of waterproofing, the Sullivan is a versatile choice that can handle a variety of job sites.
While the Timberland Pit Boss is a solid, reliable option, the Sullivan offers better overall value for those who need a boot that delivers on all fronts. If you’re looking for a boot that will keep you comfortable, dry and ready for anything, the BRUNT Sullivan is the way to go.
