Planera, a platform focused on visual CPM-based scheduling, has released a new version of its software for iPad, expanding access for field teams involved in construction planning and execution. The update aims to bridge the longstanding gap between schedules created in the office and the planning that happens on the job site.

Construction schedules are often developed to meet contractual needs, not to manage daily field activities. As a result, office-generated schedules can be disconnected from the realities of the job site, leaving field teams to rely on spreadsheets, whiteboards, or ad hoc communication to plan work.

Planera’s iPad compatibility addresses this issue by enabling superintendents and tradespeople to directly contribute to the development and refinement of schedules through pull planning. The mobile interface makes it easier for users in the field to view, update, and adjust timelines based on current site conditions.

With the new release, field users can:

  • Participate in collaborative pull planning
  • Update task statuses in real time while walking the job site
  • Access bookmarked construction work packages by trade
  • Use a visual, graphical interface designed for usability in the field

This approach helps ensure that project schedules are more accurate and trusted by all stakeholders, as the input from field personnel—who often have the most up-to-date site information—is incorporated from the start.

The addition of mobile access also supports better schedule maintenance throughout the life of a project. By allowing superintendents and trade partners to make updates directly from the field, Planera aims to turn the project schedule into a dynamic, working tool instead of a static document.

For teams using pull planning or managing complex workflows across multiple trades, Planera on iPad may help improve communication, reduce schedule drift, and provide a clearer picture of progress.
